School Meals and Packed Lunches

Meals

A choice of healthy meals are cooked on the premises and are very popular. The school Cook, Mrs Leanne Rawsthorn, works hard to accommodate individual dietary needs. The cook takes a personal interest in terms of children’s eating success and issues of concern are related to parents via teachers.

School Meals are £10.50 a week for all KS2 children. Children in Reception, Year One and Year Two are entitled to a school meal free of charge.

Meals are £2.10 per day.

Packed Lunches and Healthy Eating

We do all that we can to support Parents in their attempts to encourage their children to eat healthily by setting good examples as adults. This principle has come out of our work on gaining ‘Healthy Schools Status’.

At lunch we encourage parents to provide healthy choices in lunchboxes.

Our School Council sought the views of parents and pupils and consulted with Knowsley Healthy School Team, after which school adopted a healthy approach to packed lunches.

The contents of lunchboxes are monitored on a regular basis.

Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School rules for packed lunches are as follows:

Fruit

During the afternoon fruit is available for KS1 and Foundation Stage children.

KS2 children can bring a piece of fruit from home to eat at morning play. Healthy eating is taught directly as part of the curriculum.

KS2 children can pay £2 per half term for a biscuit at morning break.

KS1 pay £1,00 per week for morning snack, they have a range of snacks including yogurts, fruit, biscuits, cheese and crackers etc.

Milk

Milk is provided free for children under five.  Infant children receive milk at a cost of £1.50 per child per year, payable at the beginning of each new school year.
